Livestock production is an important component of agriculture and performs a very supportive economic role. Reproductive disorders of the animals cause great economic problems. Several diseases which infect small ruminants result in abortion or reduced fertility. Infertility is a major cause of economic losses and a major limitation to the achievement of optimum efficiency in the livestock production system. In this issue, Kouamo et al. (2021) report a prevalence rate of 37.3% for genital tract abnormalities in sows. In a previous study, Kouamo and Asongafec (2020) reported a high prevalence of genital tract abnormalities in does and ewes. The most pressing constraint on livestock reproduction is reproductive disorders. The development of reproductive techniques is directed to ensure the application of more intensive systems of production and to facilitate the genetic improvement of the productive characteristics of the flock.
